Remember when?

The U.S. Government claimed they needed the Patriot Act because law enforcement agencies "couldn't get data the way a private citizen can?"

Well, they did, can and do. They buy it just like the average citizen does. If this is true we can just dump the Patriot Act right?

From the AP via AOL News:

"WASHINGTON (June 20) - Numerous federal and local law enforcement agencies have bypassed subpoenas and warrants designed to protect civil liberties and gathered Americans' personal telephone records from private-sector data brokers.

These brokers, many of whom advertise aggressively on the Internet, have gotten into customer accounts online, tricked phone companies into revealing information and even acknowledged that their practices violate laws, according to documents gathered by congressional investigators and provided to The Associated Press."

Well, look at it this way, you could be a Reality Show Star and not even know it. Somebody, somewhere, cares enough to buy the very best information they can find on you.

According to the article, Ed Whitfield, R-Ky said...

"There's a good chance there are some laws being broken, but it's not really clear precisely which laws."

Those guys really do deliever good lines.

I'd use the VP lines, which works for anything...

"No one could have foresaw this."

"Everyone was led to believe this."

"We all were given the same information."

But the 30 million dollars spent on this method is used to ensure nobody is talking to the Bogeymen of...

The 21st Century!

(in 3-D)

You could be the accomplice of a international criminal gang and NOT EVEN KNOW IT! You could be simply walking (or dragging) a cherished cat down the block, but unknowingly canvassing the neighborhood looking for weaknesses in your neighbors fence to spring your nefarious trap or whatever deeds you unknowingly nefarious people do. How in the hell am I supposed to know when YOU DON'T KNOW EITHER!

But you can purchase your own telephone records from unscrupulous third parties to find out, for a ridiculously high fee, of course.

Relax, your goverment cares enough about you not to trust a fucking thing you say. The "law of the land" is simply breaking or nullifying exist laws to protect you from yourself.

Until they break down your door in the middle of the night, kill your dog and kick your kids there is nothing to fear.

"We're from the government and here to help."

Oh yes we can!

You probably forgot to return an overdue library book. Terrorists have been known not to return books on time.

You can always buy another dog, hell, you've always wanted to kick that kid since you found that crap on MySpace.

Signing off, I have a lot of emails from the makers of Viagra and Cialis to trash.
