I knew that Spinach would someday exact it's revenge on an unsuspecting public. That day has come, and with a vengeance.
Popeye was mildly successful at getting kids to eat their spinach. The green leafy was quite happy then. Being the social outcast and shunned by collards, turnips and it's leafy peers didn't help. That a few health conscience vegans and soccer moms ate it wasn't enough. It could not console the spinach, who simply wanted a wider audience.
CNN reports spinach is on a 19-state rampage, only to be expanded. It's insidious plotting and partnership with the E. coli bacteria has sickened at least 109 people.
"Asked when it would be safe for Americans to resume eating fresh spinach, he said, "As soon as we are sure that we've got this under control and that the outbreak is over and that we have figured out, as best we can, what the problems are and fixed them."
No evidence of foul play
Washing the leaves well will not necessary offer protection, he said, noting that there is evidence that E. coli can get inside the leaf."
I suspect Fox News will have a few words to say about this, not to be outdone by CNN.
